New Mexico Route 66 Alliance Odeon Theatre Preservation Project Completed June 2026

Volunteers from the New Mexico Route 66 Alliance have completed the restoration of the neon sign on the Odeon Theatre funded through a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. After completing the Odeon, the Preservation Team spent an extra day to restore the neon border around the Safari Motel sign. The award winning New Mexico Route 66 Alliance Preservation Team works with small business owners and funding agencies to revitalize Route 66 landmarks.

3-5 Tucumcari Author Emily Priddy Releases Free E-Book

11-26: National Trust for Historic Preservation Awards Grants for Neon Preservation. A grant was awarded to the New Mexico Route 66 Alliance to restore the historic neon sign at Tucumcari’s Odeon Theatre. Alliance President Vickie Ashcraft was awarded a Legacy Property grant for a neon project at the Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post in Albuquerque.

12-16 R.I.P. Larry Plath

New Mexico Route 66 Vice-President Larry Plath passed away on 12-16, a victim of lung cancer. Larry was a 3rd generation sign man and an expert on neon signs. Larry was a Route 66 enthusiast who had a passion for historic roadside neon signs and volunteered his time to work side-by-side with Route 66 preservationists restoring classic signs.
